April 2024 - Två tre..!

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

It was a loud and explosive start to my month courtesy of one of my favourite bands, The Hives, who I saw earlier this month. And when I say they were loud, I mean loud! I can see why some people choose to wear earplugs!
They were as brilliantly boisterous as they were last year, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, even if my ears didn't at first!

Continuing on from last month's discussion about the arts trail (see last month's entry for details), I've further refined the idea I mentioned last month.
Ideally, I want to fit an entire story on each piece. I'm thinking of going for quite an abstract art style perhaps with a bit of a 60's psychedelic look too. I'll use oil paint but I want to experiment with mixed media a bit - for example I've thought about cutting out letters from magazines and newspapers and using them for the text.
Kinda anxious about all this but also excited - having a deadline will help to motivate me too! Planning to apply once I've sorted out a place to have my work in!
More news next month!

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading! I hope you have a good month!

March 2024 - Craic agus ceol!

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

Went to my first gig of the year earlier this month. I saw the Irish indie band NewDad (and funnily enough it was two weeks before St. Patrick's Day too!). They were brilliant! Also really enjoyed their supporting band The Love Buzz who are also Irish! I didn't know there would be a support band either so it was a nice surprise!

It was announced that applications for the arts trail I mentioned last month will be opening next month so I've been spending time brainstorming ideas.
The idea I'm leaning towards the most is a series of newspaper strip length comics about a private detective painted and drawn on canvas. They'd have a silly/tongue in cheek tone and the detective character would only work on cases that are seen as very basic or trivial by everyone but the detective who takes them very seriously like they're in a classic noir style film.
For example, the cases would be things like finding a kid's lost toy or someone's lost cat. Arguably, these are still very important, of course, but the detective will treat them very seriously (perhaps a little too much) which I feel is where a lot of the humour and jokes will come from.
Since I'd be doing these pieces for the arts trail, I thought it would be fun to set them in Bristol so I've been making a list of potential places or areas to set some of them in.
Anyway, the concept still needs tweaking - I'll talk about it more next month.

February 2024 - Happy 2nd Birthday Zawn96!

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

Well that's another year I've been working on this for! Thanks to all for stopping by! I didn't really have anything planned to celebrate this year, but I've been chipping away at the long discussed 'Travel Update'. I'm aiming to have it finished and up before next month's diary entry (though if you've been here for a while, you'll know that that may not happen!).

Mini update on The Last One Out!
I've made a lot of progress since last month - really enjoying working on it! Unfortunately, I'm doubtful it'll be done in time for this year's arts trail and I don't wanna rush it so I'll aim to have it ready for next year instead. I'll probably premiere some, if not all, of the singles on here though so you won't have to wait that long to see anything!

Despite this, I'd still like to be a part of this year's arts trail. Not sure yet what to do instead, but I'd like it to be different to what I've done before.
Thinking clouds but abstract? Not sure yet, but more on this next month.

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading! I hope you have a good month!

January 2024 - New year, new goals

Hello! I hope you've had a good start to the year.

You may or may not remember, but back in Novemeber I mentioned that I'd discuss what my new project is once the new year had arrived. Well I've decided to discuss it this month!

So... after finishing that painting (which I still haven't posted an image of yet - whoops!) I came to the realisation that creating paintings of landscapes was clearly not something I had a passion for anymore.
So what to do instead?
Well, an idea came to me whilst listening to The New Abnormal. I began wondering where the album cover art had come from - was it an original piece or preexisting. After a quick bit of research I discovered that it was the latter - a painting from the eighties called Bird on Money
This then led to me looking up a bunch of other albums with interesting cover art. Seeing as I had some blank canvases that were roughly the same size as a vinyl single, I thought it might be fun to try and make some abstract-y original art that could be an album cover.
I quickly came up with an idea and began working on it. Whilst working on it, I also came up with a vague idea of what the single's song would have been about and decided that the name of the piece should therefore be what the song's name would have been.
And then I had another idea - what if I also wrote the songs too? I could do a whole album!
So that's what my new project is!
There'll be thirteen songs altogether and each will have their own cover and song. I'm also gonna do a much bigger piece which will be closer to the size of a typical vinyl LP and will serve as the album version. Not gonna reveal any of the song titles yet, but I will say that the collective name and album title will almost certainly be The Last One Out. All the songs are part of one continuous narrative akin to concept albums like ELO's Time. I've already figured out what each song will be about - they will all tell a very personal story!

Planning to have this all finished in time for a particular local arts trail as I'd like to be part of it this year! I don't know when this year's will be but last year's was in September, so I imagine it'll be around the same time this year.
I'm also thinking about doing prints of the original pieces on cardboard CD sleeves with a disc shaped piece of card inside with the lyrics - something to think about later down the line!

More news to come so stay tuned!

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading! I hope you have a good month!

December 2023 - Bye 2023 (+ The 1st Zawn96 Awards)

Hello! I hope you've had a good month (and year).

Well it's crazy but 2023 has somehow managed to top 2022.
Don't get me wrong - this year's certainly had its ups and downs - but overall it really has managed to outdo 2022!

Much like last year, I feel like I've grown a lot. Whilst most of last year's was outward (e.g. going out more, moving out), I feel like this year it's been inward. I feel like I'm a lot more confident and at ease with myself and that I'm much better at opening up to the people around me.
I have to of course thank my friends and family as their love and support has helped me immensely this year - So thank you! :)

I've got a lot planned for 2024 and I'm excited to see what the year will bring - if I'm lucky it may even top 2023!

November 2023 - I'm about to write an entry that I haven't yet. 'Bout the most incredible ensemble that I've ever seen

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

Finally finished that painting - happy with how it turned out! I'll post a picture of it soon!
This means that I can start working on something completely different! In addition to what I vaguely mentioned last month, I've also had another idea that I'm as equally excited (if not more) to work on. Safe to say that my upcoming work will be very different and a lot more abstract. I'll be starting this weekend and plan to reveal what I've been working on in the new year.

In other news...

A couple of weeks back I went to see a band called Sammy Rae & The Friends - a band that has quickly become a favourite of mine. This was my first time going to a gig alone too - something that I did initially regret but didn't mind once the show began.
They played a lot of fan favourites (including a song called 'Denim Jacket' which is probably my favourite song of theirs) and some new songs that will be on their upcoming album which I loved. They also so did a brilliant cover of the Jet song 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl' (love that song) and the ABBA song 'Lay All Your Love On Me' (which I really enjoyed despite not being a huge ABBA fan).
They were absolutely brilliant - can't wait to see them again next time they're in town! Cannot recommend them enough - do yourself a favour and give them a listen!!!

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading, and as The Friends say:
'Go put a smile on somebody's face, go tell somebody they have a place in this world, go tell somebody you wanna be friends with them!'

October 2023 - Do do do do do doooo, you you you you you yoouu, think I'm sp-oo-oo-ky??

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

I recently had an idea for a new (well, kinda new) creative endeavor. It's going to be a combination of three of my favourite things - which are? You'll have to wait and see!
I'm still tinkering with some ideas, but once that's done (and the now infamous oil painting I started earlier this year is finished (97% finished so far)) I'll start working on them.
If all goes well, I'd like to create a bunch of pieces and show them at a particular local arts trail (assuming they'll have me of course).

More on that soooooon!!

In other news...

Last night I went with some friends to see McFly! Never was a huge McFly fan back in the day (was more into Busted - in fact my first album was a Busted album), but I liked a few of their songs so I thought 'sure, why not'.
Since I'm not super familiar with their discography, I listened to a mixture of their old and new stuff this month. This included their newly released album 'Power to Play' which I now really like.
The show was great and I had a lot of fun (not sure my body agrees with me right now though!).

One last gig for 2023 next month. A much lesser known band compared to the two I've seen so far. They're an extremely talented and fun band and I'm excited to see them live and talk about them in next month's blog post!

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading. I hope you have a fun Halloween and a fun month!

September 2023 - Dydh da Kernow!

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

This month, I escaped back into the countryside - this time to a small village in Cornwall called Boscastle, with both my brother and mum!

Here are some of the highlights from each day!

I've (once again) included links to the Ordanace Survey's 'OS Maps' where you'll find maps of some of the walks I went on (check out diary entry #012 for a more detailed explanation).

~ Day 0 ~
On our way to Boscastle we stopped off in Launceston for lunch. We arrived at Boscastle and went for a quick walk around the harbour before returning to where we would be staying (a little cottage called 'Cobble Cottage').

~ Day 1 ~
Me and my brother went for a walk along the coast.
Here's a map of that walk! -->Click me!

~ Day 2 ~
Went to Tintagel for the day! Visited Tintagel Castle (what's left of it!) which has a lot of links to old Arthurian legends!

~ Day 3 ~
We had a bit of a lazy day! Went to the Boscastle Farm Shop for lunch and then walked back to Boscastle on my own along the coast (more or less the same walk me and my brother did on day 1).

~ Day 4 ~
Visited Widemouth Bay and went for a walk along the beach. I also went into the sea, because what kind of idiot doesn't whilst they're in Cornwall? Probably against the law not to!

~ Day 5 ~
Last day! Visited the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Boscastle - very interesting, I recommend it!

August 2023 - "I like your hair. Is that product or just luck?" - Howlin' Pelle

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

So I did something pretty cool this month.
I met one of my new favourite bands - The Hives - during a signing event for their new album 'The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons'. I shook hands with all the members and had a photo taken with them. And if that wasn't enough, I was also complimented by the lead singer - Howlin' Pelle (my response was 'A bit of both' which he laughed at). I will now forever refer to myself as having rock star approved hair! Looking forward to seeing them live next year in April!

In other, less exciting, news...
Now that I've got more of my free time back (no longer taking extra shifts at work), I've been able to work on some of my many creative endeavors. One of which is a painting I started all the way back in January. It's coming along nicely and should hopefully be finished within the next couple of weeks.

July 2023 - And we're off to the race(s)

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

Another busy month!
Took on quite a few extra shifts this month so I havent been able to make much progress on any of my projects. I'm fortunate enough to not need any extra shifts right now so I've decided to stop accepting any in order to spend my time on these projects. Despite this, work on the new travel section is going very well - hoping to have it finished by late August/early September.
I'll also be finishing a painting I started earlier this year (I think I've mentioned it before?) and then never doing a big painting again! - well, not for a long time at least! I'll focus on doing much smaller painitings instead!
I recently had a bit of a eureka moment with one of my short stories, so I've been chipping away at that too.

And now for the more interesting part of my month!
So earlier this month me and my brother went to Silverstone for this year's Formula 1 British Grand Prix!

Got up at about 5am and then walked to the coach. After a 3 hour(ish) drive we arrived at Silverstone. We had general admission tickets so we immediately set out to find a good spot to watch and caught the end of the F2 race.
After that we set out again to find a better spot and ended up staying next to Hangar Straight (stayed here for pretty much the rest of the day). Before the actual race started, we watched a Porsche Supercup race and the F1 driver's parade. After a Red Arrows display, the race began!
I enjoyed the race and it was nice to see two Brits on the podium! After the race we walked across the track (where we saw (and you can kinda see in the pic below) a lot of people taking parts of the ads on the track (staff stopped them at several exit points to take them back). After another long coach drive we arrived back in Bristol at around 10pm.
Long day but it was great fun!

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading. I hope you have a good month!

June 2023 - My favourite announcements/highlights from this year's 'Not E3, E3' season

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

As you may have seen, I've finally released my beginners guide to making a website. I hope there are people out there that will find it useful! I'm thinking of possibly adding to it in the future but for now I'll be focusing on a new section for the site that I've previously mentioned - a travel section!
This new section will be a chronicle of all my trips abroard. I hope people will find it interesting!

Alright, it's June which means it's time for video games. I didn't watch every stream this year (can't these days - just too many!) but here are the bits I liked from the ones I did watch:

**********************
PlayStation Showcase
**********************

~ Ghostrunner 2 ~

Never played the first but it looks fun so maybe I'll give it a shot.
~ Sword of the Sea ~

Getting some Sable vibes from this one - love the art style.
~ Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater ~

A remake - not many of those these days.
~ Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 ~

Konami remembers they like money - hopefully it'll be on pc too.
~ Alan Wake 2 ~

Previously announced - a gist of the plot with a smidge of gameplay. Looking forward to seeing more.
~ Dragon's Dogma 2 ~

First trailer! - the first DD is one of my fav games ever so I'm very excited to play this!
*******************
Summer Games Fest
*******************
~ Mortal Kombat 1 ~

Reboot - the only fighting game franchise I've ever gotten into. Seems like a good opportunity to jump back in.
~ Nicolas Cage ~

What a great guy.
~ Alan Wake 2 ~

A closer look (with more gameplay) with the game's creative director, Sam Lake.
~ Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name ~

A Like a Dragon spinoff (the series formally known as Yakuza in the west) - gotta get around to finishing Yakuza 6.
~ Under the Waves ~

Big fan of the Subnautica games so I'll be sure to check this out!
************************************
Xbox Showcase (+ Starfield Direct)
************************************
~ Fable ~

Still no gameplay but Richard Ayoade plays a giant called Dave in it so...yeah...sure.
~ Star Wars Outlaws ~

Playing as a smuggler/outlaw type character sounds fun - interested to see gameplay.
~ Avowed ~

Previously announced RPG by Obsidean - looks fun. I enjoyed The Outer Worlds so i'll probably give this a go.
~ Persona 3 Reload ~

Only played P4 Golden so far so I might give this a go after P5.
~ Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth ~

A Like a Dragon game set in America (possibly Hawaii)? Sure.
~ Still Wakes the Deep ~

Horror game set on an oil rig. Looks spooky!
~ Metaphor: ReFantazio ~

The fuck is that title? Anyway it's made by Atlus and plays like Persona(?) so I might check it out.
~ Clockwork Revolution ~

Some heavy Bishock Infinite vibes (and not just because it's steampunk) - looks fun.
~ Starfield ~

Hot take: It's just Fallout in space. I joke but it does look fun and there's a lot about it I like - I just find it hard to believe it'll be 'one of the most important rpgs ever made' (as claimed near the start of the showcase). Would happily be proven wrong!
********************
The PC Gaming Show
********************
~ Nivalis ~

Nifty looking cyberpunk game - interested to see more!
~ D.O.R.F. Real-Time Strategic Conflict ~

Old school RTS - might give it a go?
~ Mullet MadJack ~

Boomer shooter dripping in neon anime inspired visuals - definitely checking this one out!
~ Nova Roma ~

Could this be the Caesar 3 spiritual successor I've always wanted?
~ Bloomtown: A Different Story ~

It's like Stardew Valley except it's got JRPG-esuq turn based combat and spooky demon monsters. So basiclally it's nothing like Stardew Valley.
*******************
Ubisoft 'Forward'
*******************

...

~ Star Wars Outlaws ~

Gameplay shown - it's certainly a game that you'll be able to play.

...

...aaaaaand that's all I got out of this one.
*****************
Nintendo Direct
*****************
~ Super Mario RPG ~

Wow, a remake for a game that actually needed one - that's crazy.
~ Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 ~

Looks like it's gonna be on Switch too so I guess it's not a PS5 exclusive.
~ Headbangers: Rhythm Royale ~

Think Warioware but with pigeons. Pigeons that are vibin.

What else have I been up to?

How to make a website - the basics

So today is Back in Febuary, Zawn96 crossed it's 1 year anniversy!
This was supposed to be finished by and posted to celebrate but I ended up not finishing it in time. It's taken me awille to finish (sorry!) but I'm excited to finally share it with you!! Enjoy!

--

I'm constanly frustrated with the fact that websites are nowadays seen as somthing the only businesses use. I, like many other likeminded individuals, want too change this.
Back when the internet was just beginning to piece itself together, you'd see thousands of webistes created by people from all walks of life. Yeah, most of those sites looked like utter shit but they were all unique and persoanl and you'll never ever get that with a profile page on a social media platform like Facebook or Twitter.
Social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Tik Tok etc should not be the extent of what expressing yourself on the internet can be.

But you didn't come here for a TED Talk! You wanna know how some idiot like me made a website.

Isn't making a website hard?

I mean, I'm pretty stupid, so if I can so can you!

//SECTION 000 -- THE BASICS - PLANNING + PREP//
Let's start with some terminoligy. This is a list of terms that I recommend familiarizing yourself with.

~ HTML ~
This is the main language you'll be using. I kinda see it as your way of defining a web page's structure - I guess it's a bit like the website's skeleton

CSS
This is the other language you'll be using. If the HTMl is the skeleton, CSS is the flesh and other non bone stuff that forms a web page.

Website
You already know what this is...right? You're on one right now!

Web Page
You're never gonna believe this, but a web page is a page on a website. Pretty crazy right?

Planning

So you wanna make a website? Alright, why?
A porfollio? Maybe you just want somewhere to tell the world about that one obsession you never seem to shut up about!
Great! But before you start clacking away on your keyboard like Stevie Wonder on his piano, I would recomend you do a bit of planning. You don't have to get too detailed but having a rough idea of how you want the site to look will make things a lot easier.
I did this, and in doing so, I only learnt what I needed to learn when I needed to learn it. It really made everything feel a lot less overwhelming. Plus, having something to aim for will just help in gerneral.

Stuff you'll need

- A computer (you could use your phone (I guess) but I'd advise against that)
- A source-code editor (I'll be using Notepad++ - recomend using if you're gonna follow this guide)

//SECTION 001 -- HTML BASICS//
So then, the first web page. We'll start with the html.

1. Stating the document type
Your first line of code will be this:

<!DOCTYPE html>

This line is used to tell the browser that the language of code is html. It's important that you remember to add this to the top of each page you create, otherwise the browser won't have a clue what you're on about!

2. Adding <html> tags
Next up are the html tags. The lang="en" part tells the browser what language the page is written in. Search engines will look for this when looking for pages in a certain language.
Don't want the language to be english (en)? Then replace it with one of the language codes fromthis list!

<html lang="en">

Then below that add this line:

</html>

Note: Everything else from this point on must be written inbetween these two tags!

3. Adding <head> and <title> tags
Heads up, the head tags are next!

<head>
</head>

There's a few things you can put between these tags, but for now we're gonna just add title tags.

<head>
<title>Put your title here!</title>
</head>

Whatever you write between these tags will be displayed in the browser tab for that web page - for example, this page's title is 'Blog - Zawn96'

4. Adding <body> tags
Under the head tags will be the body tags.

<body>
</body>

Most of the html for your web page will go in between these tags. We'll come back to these later.

Recap
Alright so far? Hopefully you have something like this:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title>Put your title here!</title>
</head>
<body>
</body>
</html>

5. Adding heading tags
Time for some text! - specifically a heading. To create one you'll need to use heading tags. Heading tags come in 6 flavours:

<h1> - (the biggest)

<h2>

<h3>

<h4>

<h5>

<h6> - (the smallest)

Let's add one to our code.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title>Put your title here!</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>I am a big heading</h1>
</body>
</html>

Preview (skip if you're not using Notepad++)
You might have been wondering if there's a way to view the webpage. Well if you were, you'll be glad to know there is! And if you were'nt...well...I'm gonna tell you anyway!

First you'll need to save your work (by either clicking the floppy disk save icon or by pressing the 'Ctrl' and 'S' keys simultaneously). If you haven't saved yet, you'll need to pick a location and name for the file. Neither matter so it's up to you - just make sure to add .html to the end of the file's name.

Once that's done, click on 'File' and then 'Open in Default Viewer'. This should open the file in your default browser. If you'd rather it didn't, you can instead click 'View' then select from the list that appears when you hover over the 'View Current File in' option.

And voila! You can now see your web page in all it's glory!
I'd highly recomend doing this whenever you make changes - it makes it a lot eaiser to figure out the cause of any errors you make!

6. Adding paragraph tags
Ready for some more text?

<p>

Paragraph tags arn't imperative for adding text but they'll make stylizing the text much easier.

Let's add a few to our code.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title>Put your title here!</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>I am a big heading</h1>
<p>words, words and even more words!</p>
<p>more words? whaaaaaaa</p>
</body>
</html>

Well we've got some text now but our web page looks pretty bland, right? Some CSS will fix that!

//SECTION 002 -- CSS BASICS//
Time for some style!

Create a new page, save it and add .css to the end of the file's name instead of .html - I'd reccomend using the same name as the html file.
Then you'll need to add one final bit of code to the html file:

<link rel="stylesheet" href="tut_style.css">

Place this somewhere between the <head> tags and replace "tut_style.css" with the name of your css file.

1. Changing the background
There's a couple ways you can change the background. For now. we'll look at the simplest way.

{background-color: blue;}

Your background should now have changed colour! If you want a specific colour you can use hex codes instead.

{background-color: #24e9ec;}

2. Changing the heading colour
Pretty similar to what we've just looked at.

h1 {color: purple;}

//CONCLUSION + FURTHER READING//
So that's that! This is just a taste of what you can do! I might add to this in the future or even make a new guide with some slighlty more adavnced stuff.

I hope you've enjoyed reading this and find it useful!

May 2023 - Do you wanna know... what I've been up to this month?

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

Before I address the subtle hint in the title - a few quick updates on some stuff
My long awaited and long long overdue beginner's guide to making a website will finally be up sometime this week! Apologies once again for the delay!
It's been another busy month and I imagine June will be no different - still, I'd like to finish the painting and Gunpla next month and pop a few pictures of both on here at some point.

So then, a couple of days ago (29th) I saw Arctic Monkeys live - my first ever gig! Really enjoyed it! I'd heard that they don't tend to play much of their older stuff so it was nice to hear a them play quite a bit of it (especially since I'm not really that familiar with their newer stuff).
The two supporting bands were The Mysterines and The Hives. We somehow missed The Mysterines but were able to see The Hives perform. They were really good too! It was actually the lead singer's (Pelle Almqvist) birthday so he got the crowd to sing him happy birthday!
Looking forward to the next gig I'm going to in October. Who am I seeing? You'll have to obviously wait and see...

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading. I hope you have a good month!

April 2023 - Work and work

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

Finally feel like I'm getting somewhere with this short story I've been writing!
Unfortunately it won't be done in time for the competition I was going to enter, but that's okay because I've decided I'm going to try and publish a collection of stories instead! Of course, that means I'll actually need to finish them instead of starting a new one every five minutes!
I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but the guide on building a website is still being worked on. It will be out next month - promise!

It does feel like a bit of an uphill battle trying to get things done at the moment, but I'm determined to keep going! Apologies for the lack of stuff but hopefully I'll have more to discuss next month!

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading. I hope you have a good month!

'D'

P.S -- For those wondering why there wasn't a Bonsai Watch this month:
I've decided to stop doing them on a monthly basis because I wasn't really happy with the stuff I was writing and felt like I was forcing myself to write them for the sake of writing them. I want to instead use that time and energy on other projects. Don't worry though - they'll pop up again from time to time!

March 2023 - Spring has...is that snow?

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

Spring is here? Well hopefully it'll start to feel more like it soon!
I don't know about you, but for me this month has gone by so quickly! As a result, I feel a little lost as to what I should talk about!
I've almost finished the Gunpla model I mentioned last month, so you can expect to see some pics of it soon! It's been really fun and surprisingly therapeutic too! Maybe I'll build another one...?

Annoyingly, I haven't really found the time (or energy when I do have the time) to work on the short story and painting that I previously mentioned. I'm determined to finish them in April so hopefully you'll hear more about them soon! Speaking of things that need finishing, the thing I had planned for this site's 1 year anniversary is still being worked on! I guess I should just spill the beans as to what it is: it's a beginners guide on how to build a website! Maybe I should read a beginners guide on how to write a guide so that I can finally finish the bloody thing!

Bonsai Watch #4 -- Aqua Bonsai

Welcome back!

I recently discovered something called 'Aqua Bonsai' and thought it would make for an interesting topic for this month's post!

I first discovered the concept when I came across a post from the site 'Bonsai Empire'. I won't go into the nitty gritty (you can readthe whole post here)but it's essentially a style of bonsai that are grown in water instead of soil.
Obviously it's not as simple as just dunking a bonsai in some water and calling it a day. Here's some of the steps you've gotta take in order to successfully grow one:

[1] Attempting to grow a bonsai in regular tap water would eventually kill it so you've gotta use certain fertilizers. This will give the plant the nutrients it needs to survive and grow.

[2] The water needs to be changed on a regular basis.

[3] Don't forget, it still needs sunlight!

Very interested in trying this out myslef at some point!

Thanks for reading! See you next month!

'D'

Also, a quick non-bonsai related update before I end this month's post - The thing I had planned for this site's 1 year anniversary is still on it's way! The end of last month got pretty hectic, so apologies for the delay! Should be ready soon!

February 2023 - Happy Birthday Zawn96!

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

So today marks the 1 year anniversary of this website! I was planning to have something special to share today, as a way to commemorate this, but it's not quite finished yet (sorry!). I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of this month, so keep an eye out for it!
I've really enjoyed working on this site over the past year. I still have a lot of plans and ideas, so I hope you'll stick around to see what I have in store!

So, what have I been up to this month? Well, a lot of things actually - some of which is none of your business!
I've started working on my first Gunpla - which was a Christmas present from my brother. The model I'm making is called 'RX-78-2 Gundam [Beyond Global]' and it's a HG 1/44 model. So far I've finished the torso and head. Really enjoyed my time working on it so far - well, apart from the head as it had some pretty fiddly bits!
I'll add some pictures of it to next month's diary entry - assuming I finish it by then!

I'm gonna try to finish a short story I started a few months ago called 'Buisness as Usual' - I've been writing it for a local short story competition. The deadline is in April, so I'm gonna try to finish it next month. Might talk about it next month?

What else have I been up to?
Thanks, as always, for reading. I hope you have a good month!

Bonsai Watch #3 -- Bonsai History

Welcome back!

Not much to update on this month so I'm gonna do something a little different for this month's post. This one's gonna be a little history lesson about bonsai!

So like many, including myself not too long ago, you might be tempted to assume that bonsai originates from Japan (maybe because you know that the name 'bonsai' is Japanese). Well, in reality bonsai actually originates from China where it's known as 'penjing'.
It's believed that the first trees used were collected from environments where they were exposed to extreme or wild weather conditions. Due to this, the trees collected were very unique looking and were chosen as they were seen as sacred as these bizarre and messy looking trees could not be used for anything practical.
Over time, new styles and ideas would allow the art to continue to grow and would later spread to Japan via Buddhist students who brought them back to Japan as souvenirs.
Counties in the western world so learnt of this art's existence, the earliest being in a piece of writing by a Spaniard in 1604 were they described how they'd seen Chinese immigrants (in the Philippines) growing small trees in pieces of coral. Eventually it would become more well known, and in 1904 the first English language book on the subject (specifically about Japanese dwarf trees) was published.

~ [Sources:History of Bonsai - Bonsai Empire+Penjing - Wikipedia] ~

Also, quick note before I end this month's post - I'm thinking about getting another bonsai! More details next month(?).

Thanks for reading! See you next month!

January 2023 - Happy New Year!

Hello! I hope you've had a good start to the year.

So this month I went on what was my first holiday since before the pandemic, with my brother to Croyde (North Devon) for a week-ish. We mainly want for walks but also went surfing (well, tried to surf at least! - still great fun though).

Here's a recount of what happened during the break! - I've included a few of the photos I took and links to the Ordanace Survey's 'OS Maps' which allows you to plot out routes. I've used this to show the exact routes we took on our walks.

~ Day 0 ~
After the train journey, we arrived in Barnstaple. After grabbing some food, we wandered around town and quickly discovered that there were very few (or none - I can't quite remember) buses available as it was a Sunday. We took a taxi to Croyde (for an amount that I quickly attempted to scrub from my brain) and then, after a brief walk along Croyde beach, headed to where we would be staying.

~ Day 1 ~
We headed out early to walk to Saunton in order to collect the surfboards and wetsuits we'd hired. After I tried on my wetsuit we headed back but took a diferent path to the one we took getting there (a decision we would later regret - it was a nice walk, but not as enjoyable whilst carrying a surfboard!)
Here's a map of that walk! -->Click me!

~ Day 2 ~
Surf day! Walked to Saunton with our gear on and boards and surfed (or tried to I should say!) for a couple of hours. Even though I suck at surfing it was still fun and nice to be in the (very cold) sea again! Afterwards we dropped off our boards and headed back.

~ Day 3 ~
Went on a walk along Baggy Point.
Here's a map of that walk! -->Click me!

~ Day 4 ~
Went on a long walk from Croyde, along Saunton (where we dropped off our wetsuits) and then walked all the way down to Crow Point. Felt bloody knackered by the end of it.
Here's a map of that walk! -->Click me!

~ Day 5 ~
We both still felt pretty tired after the previous day's walk so we had a bit of a lazy day. Started prepering to for the journey home the following day.

In other news...
I've recently had a bit of an itch to do some painting so I've bought some oil paints and palette knives. Never used palette knives before so I'm exicted to try them out!

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading. I hope you have a good month!

P.S Next month's diary entry will mark the 1 year anniversary of this site (!) so expect to see somthing extra special on that day...

Bonsai Watch #2 -- So far, so good

Welcome back!

As you might have guessed from the title of this month's post, I've managed to keep my bonsai alive (yay).
Had a few more yellow leaves not long after last month's post but they've all dropped off and I haven't seen anymore since! Seem's like I've managed to figure out that right amount of light, temperature, watering and misting.

My parents gave me a book on bonsai (called 'Happy Bonsai' and is written by Michael Tran) for Christmas which has given me a bit more of an insight on basic bonsai care. Here's a few more things I've learnt that I'd like to add to what I said last month:

(Note -- underlined text is quoted from the book)

Having a good amount of air flow in the room is important as it will "allow foliage to exchange gases or "breathe"" which in turn will help "prevent the stagnant air favoured by fungal diseases"
I mentioned misting last month, but I've since learnt that it should idealy be done in the morning so that the humidity created evaporates throughout the day.

I had more planned to discuss this month but I've been pretty busy and don't really have time - find out more in this month's diary post on the 25th! - so sorry about that. Next month's post will be packed with stuff!

Thanks for reading! See you next month!

December 2022 - See yah 2022!

Hello! I hope you've had a good month (and year).

How are you? I hope you've been enjoying the festivities!

Since this is the last blog post of the year, I thought I'd round up some of my favourite stuff from this year. But first I'd like to talk about how 2022 has been.

I feel relieved to say that this year has been a great year for me (and quite possibly one of the best years of my life). I think I may have mentioned before, but the last couple of years were pretty tough for me (though nowhere near as much as it has been for some which I've always been thankful for). To say that I'd been depressed may be an exaggeration, but I'd certainly been pretty down in the years leading up to 2020. I remember thinking to myself that 2020 would be different and that everything was gonna change. Sadly, that didn't happen and like everyone else I found myself trapped during a period when it felt like time itself had stopped.
2022 eventually came and quickly became what I'd hoped 2020 would be. As you may already know, I finally moved out back in June and ever since then I've felt...well...happy. Of course, moving out wasn't the only reason. I have some brilliant people in my life and this year I've been able to meet and get to know many more! They've really helped me come out of my shell and feel like I'm a better person for knowing them! If you're one of those people: Thank you. I'm lucky to have you in my life!

Alright well that's enough of that! I'm gonna run through some of my favourite things from this year now.

- Favourite Song -- 'If It All Goes South' -- My favourite song by Sammy Rae & The Friends, who I became a fan of not long after moving out.
- Favourite Film -- 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' -- There are so many films that came out this year that I still have yet to see so I'm sure this pick would change if I were to make it in a years time. Still, it's a great film and I highly recommend it!
- Favourite Book -- 'Deserter' -- Another great collection of stories from Junji Ito.

(No video game entry here this year as I haven't played anyhting that came out this year.)

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading. I hope this year has been kind to you and if not, I hope 2023 will be better. Happy New Year!

Bonsai Watch #1 -- Let's see if I can make it through a month without killing this thing

Hey look, another new thing!

Welcome to the first of many monthly posts in which I'll be documenting my bonsai plant as it grows! I'll also be discussing bonsai care and sharing stuff I've learnt.
The bonsai I currently own is a Ficus Retusa. It's a good bonsai for beginners as they're one of the easier species to care for (hence why I picked it). I plan to buy more bonsai plants in the future but I'll see how I get on with this one first!
These posts will be on the second saturday of each month. Why? Well I recently discovered that 'World Bonsai Day' takes place on the second Saturday of May each year!

Anyway, enough waffle...

This month I'll be discussing some basic care.
- This type of bonsai prefers a spot with lots of light - but not too much! Too much direct sunlight will scorch the leaves.
- In terms of watering, you'll want to keep the soil moist but not soggy. How often you'll need to water it will depend on how warm the room is. A good rule of thumb is to check the soil every day and water if it's dry. They prefer soft water so I've been watering mine with rain water that I've collected.
- Speaking of temperature, you'll want to keep it somewhere where the temperture is consistant and is at least 15°C/60°F (so don't keep it somewhere draughty). 'Okay, I'll put next to a radiator then. It'll keep warm that way!' Actually you shouldn't as that would dry the plant out and kill it!
- Another important thing to remember is misting, as this helps keep the plant humid. This is especially important in winter as having the heating on will lower the humidity. You'll want to do this once a day (again with soft water).
Next month I'll discuss feeding, pruning and wiring!

And now for some updates and a few pics of my bonsai!

So far so good. Might have to give it a prune soon. Only had it for a couple of weeks.

Spotted this the other day. There's a bunch of reasons for why this can happen but I think for mine it's because I haven't watered it enough (been a couple of days when I've forgoten to check the soil - whoops).

Thanks for reading! See you next month!

November 2022 - It's beginning to look a lot like...

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

I've got a couple of things to discuss this month.
As you may have seen, I've added a new blog category: recipes! I've been thinking about adding this for a while now (no point repeating myself - you can find out why at the beginning of the first recipe here) and decided this would be a good recipe to start with. No schedule for new recipes but you can expect to see more in the future!
Speaking of new blog categories, I have another one starting next month! This one will be a monthly post, posted on the second Saturday of each month, where I will discuss and track the progress of my first houseplant - a bonsai (specifically a Ficus Retusa). I hope you will enjoy reading those!
In typical scatterbrain fashion, I've also started a new project - a short story. It's about a writer struggling to write their first story, but keeps being distracted by their increasingly intrusive internal monologue. I plan to add it to the site at some point in the future, but since I want to enter it into some short story competitions it could be awhile (most competitions state you cannot enter a piece that has been published before (anywhere and in any form)).
Christmas is nearly here and since my next entry will be after Christmas day, I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite Christmas films! Not many though as I tend to (often deliberately) watch bad Christmas films.

- Jingle All The Way -- It's pretty much a Christmas tradition to watch this! Such a bizarre and wild ride. I might write a review for this and post it on Christmas Eve.
- Tokyo Godfathers -- Brilliant film directed by the late, great Satoshi Kon.
- Home Alone -- You've probably already seen it a bunch of times. Not really a fan of any of the sequels, but I did enjoy Tim Curry's performance in the sequel.
- Christmas with the Kranks -- I remember being surprised by how much I enjoyed this one.
- The Snowman -- Is this a film? I guess it's technically a short film. Anyway, this film's great and you should watch it (and so should I - it's been quite a while since I last watched it).
- Scrooged -- Watched this many, many years ago and remember enjoying it.

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading. I hope you have a good month. Happy Holidays!

Hello and welcome to the first of many entries in this new category for the blog section!
Before I moved out I used to do a lot of cooking. I've never really enjoyed cooking and I'm not particulary good at it either, but I appreciated the convenience of being able to make a big batch of something that could then be eaten over the course of several days. Also home cooked stuff always tastes better than the shop bought stuff (even when I cook it).
After moving out I got into this (pretty terrible) habit of just buying mirowavable meals and since then it's what I've eaten most evenings.
But after many, many weeks (and probably months) of saying to myself and others irl, I've finally broken that habit and started cooking again! (Yay!)
So I present to you what I hope will be the first of many recipes! Enjoy!

-- Please read the disclaimer at the bottom of this post before attempting this recipe. Thanks! --

{Easy Cheesy Meatball Subs} -- a 'chuck-a-bunch-a-shit-in-a-pot' recipe

I once had this really nice meatball sub at a bar in London. This isnt that, but it's still pretty good.

Ingredients --> Makes 6 Subs
- x24 Meatballs -- 4 for each sub
- X3 Small Onions -- Chopped or sliced - up to you
- X3 Cloves of Garlic -- Diced or grated - up to you
- X1 Tin of Chopped Tomatoes -- Opened - not prior to buying (obviously)
- X? Bread Rolls of your choice -- I used 6 panini rolls
- X6 Slices of Mozzarella -- A slice for each roll - use more if you want
- A Couple Dribbles of Oil
- A Lil' Bit of Butter -- For the rolls
- A Couple Sprinkles of Rosemary
- A Couple Sprinkles of Parsley
- A Couple Sprinkles of Oregano
- A Couple Sprinkles of Basil

Tools and Equipment
- A Pot or Pan
- A Wooden Spoon
- A Knife -- Idealy a sharp one
- Another Knife -- This one doesn't need to be sharp though
- A Hob
- A Microwave -- Only needed if you're following the optional step
- A Toaster/Grill -- Only needed if you want to toast your rolls

Instructions
Step 1
Heat a pot/pan with oil. Then add the meatballs and cook them until they're cooked. Once cooked, remove them from the pot/pan and put them to one side.

Step 2
Add the chopped onion and garlic to the pot/pan and cook for about 5 minutes or so.

Step 3
Empty the tin of chopped tomatoes into the pot/pan. Add dem 'erbs and stir.

Step 4
Return the meatballs to the pot/pan, stir and then leave to simmer.

-- Optional Step --
If you're bulk cooking distribute the contents into containers and store until needed. The next steps can be done when you're serving (remember to heat up the meatball mix before plating up).

Step 5
Prepare your rolls of choice - slice them in half, slightly toast them (if you want) and then butter them.

Step 6
Distribute the meatballs and sauce into the rolls. Add the mozzarella slices.

Step 7
Eat.
Tips
- Be careful not cut off any fingers whilst chopping otherwise your blood will ruin the food's taste.
- Whilst the food is simmering, why not do some washing up? I'm sure your housemates (or whoever) would appreciate it! I know Kevin never does his washing up, but you're better than him. Don't be like Kevin.

Disclaimer - (aka me covering my arse)
I am not, in any way, shape or form, an expert when it comes to cooking. Therefore, it is possible that some of the things in this recipe (or any other posted on this site) are either stupid or wrong.
By following these recipes you agree that any limbs or property lost is due to your stupidity and not mine.
Remember, I'm just some guy on the internet that does this shit for fun and has no idea what they're doing.

K thanks have fun!

P.S
If the food tastes like shit, it's definitely your fault and not because you followed a shitty recipe.

October 2022 - It's spooky season!

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

Bit of a downer to start this one I'm afraid - earlier this month I caught Covid. Fortunately, I only had it for about a week and with minor symptoms (chesty cough and a headache). On the plus side, I did make a lot of progress with the comic whilst I was stuck at home!

Last month I said I'd list some of my favourite horror films. Maybe check some of these out if you're stumped for something to watch?

- Evil Dead II -- Easily my favourite horror film! I'll be adding a review for it to the website on Halloween!
- The Thing (1982) -- Incredible practical effects!
- Kwaidan -- Four beautiful, but also spooky ghost stories!
- Dawn of the Dead (1978) -- My favourite zombie film! I need to get around to watching Day of the Dead!
- Beetlejuice -- Recently watched this for the first time and really enjoyed it. Not exactly a horror film, but it does have some pretty cool (and creepy) visuals! Not too Tim Burton-y so if you're not a fan of some of his later stuff you might enjoy this more.
- Christine -- One of my favourite Carpenter films!
- The Lighthouse -- If you're looking for some psychological horror then this is a good pick! Fans of Lovecraft will especially enjoy this one...
- Alien -- Incredible film. Please do yourself a favour and watch this if you haven't already!
- Resident Evil -- A good choice if you're looking to watch an action/horror film!

September 2022 - Work continues

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

Work on 'Cracks of a Chilling Colour' is going well despite not making as much progress as I would have liked (been ill recently and also had some extra shifts this month). Still really happy with how it's coming along so far though! Hopefully I'll have some thumbnails to show next month.
Last month I mentioned my plans to add a travel section to the site. I've decided to not start working on it just yet as I want to completely focus on the comic. It'll definitely be adding it at some point but not anytime soon!
Anyway, a short one this month again I'm afraid! Next month is spooky season so I'll be listing some of my favourite horror films and I might even write a review for my favourite horror film!

August 2022 - Things might get a bit quiet around here

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

I should start by addressing the title. As mentioned before (I think?), I've now resumed work on a horror comic called 'Cracks of a Chilling Colour' so as a result, there's gonna be a lot less stuff added to the site. The travel section I mentioned last month will be the last major addition to the site. I haven't begun work on it yet but the plan is for it to have an interactive map of the world (that will display where I've been abroad) with pics and info for each place. Not sure when it'll be done but since the comic'll be my main focus, it'll probably be a while.
It's been a while since I last worked on the comic (last year!) so I've been going over the script (if that's the write word?) and tweaking where needed. This'll be the third (and hopefully final) draft so assuming that I'm happy with it, I'll move on to the thumbnails (kinda like the comic equivalent of storyboards - thumbnails are very rough sketches of how each page will look). Might add a few sneak peaks at the thumbnails next month if I get that far!

Thanks for reading. I hope you have a good month.

P.S The Art section I mentioned last month is here! It contains some paintings that you should go look at now if you want I dunno (they're righthere!).

July 2022 - This is where the fun begins!

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

Not much to talk about this month so this'll probably be a short one.
As always, I've been hard at work creating new content for the site. Its been great to finally be able to work on the site without the constant nagging thoughts in the back of my mind saying things like "This isn't as important" or "You should be looking for a place to move" and I've found working on this site so much more enjoyable and relaxing as a result. Anyway, let me tell you about what I've got planned for the site.

The first thing you'll be seeing is a new 'Art' section. This will replace the 'Comics' section and will contain my comic work (but not yet - still working on that!) and some paintings (which will be sorted by theme). There'll be some paintings availble to view upon the page's launch and more will be added in the future. I'm planning to have this section up and on the site in the next couple of weeks.
After that I'll be working on a section to do with travel. Not gonna say anymore but I'll have more details on it next month!

What else have I been up to?
Thanks for reading. I hope you have a good month.

P.S The site reached it's first big milestone earlier this month! 5,000 views! Thank you very much!

June 2022 - New Beginnings (cue the cheesy Pinterest quotes) -- Plus: My favourite announcements from 'Not E3, E3'

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

Some exciting news this month!
I've finally found a place and moved out! I've been here for just over a week now and settled in nicely. My three roomates (who I did'nt know previously) are out most of the week and arent the chattiest of people, but they seem alright. I'd been looking to move out since pre-pandemic so it's been a huge relief to finally find somewhere (especially since the market is very competitive atm). I'll also be able to now spend more time working on the website, the comic and other projects...(!).

Now it's time for a recap of my favourite stuff shown during this year's E3 (but not actually E3)!

===========================
Playstation State of Play
===========================

- Spider-Man Remastered (PC port)
Can't wait to finally play this in a few months!

- Resident Evil 4 REmake
Heard rumours that this was in the works.
Whilst I still have yet to play RE 2 + 3, I'm looking foreward to playing this at some point in the future.

- STRAY
Apparently this has been in development for a long time so it was quite a big deal for it to have a release date.
Random cat wandering around a cyberpunk-y world? Cool, sign me up!

- The Callisto Protocol
Dead Space but not Dead Space (literally - the studio's director, Glen Schofield, co-created Dead Space).
Looks cool.

- Rollerdrome
Got a lot of Running Man vibes from this game.
90's Hong Kong esque action on roller skates. Looks like a good time.

- SEASON: A letter to the future
Looks like a pretty chilled game with some interesting and quirky looking environmnets and characters.
Interested to learn more about it in the future.

==========================
Limited Run Games - LRG3
==========================

N/A - some cool stuff shown but nothing of much interest to me.

==================
Summer Game Fest
==================

- The Callisto Protocol
Another trailer but this time featuring GORE! LOTS OF GORE!
Also showed some gameplay. Game looks great.

- Witchfire

- Fort Solis
Game looks interesting but I started to drift off a bit when Troy Baker got on stage and started talking about it.

- Routine

=================
Day of the Devs
=================

- Time Flies

- A Little to the Left
As someone who can be a bit OCD about things, this game looked satisfying to play.

===================================================
Devolver Digital Marketing Countdown to Marketing
===================================================

- MECHA SUDA 51
Yes.

- Anger Foot

- Skate Story
'You are a demon in the Underworld, made out of glass and pain.
The Devil has given you a skateboard with a simple deal: Skate to the Moon and swallow it - and you shall be freed.'
2023 couldn't come sooner...

=======================
Guerrilla Collective3
=======================

N/A - missed it but I'm sure there was some cool stuff shown.

=======================
Wholesome Games Direct
=======================

N/A - missed but I'm sure there was some cool stuff shown.

====================
Future Games Show
====================

- LUTO

- Zero Losses

- Brewmaster
Made in Bristol!

- Serial Cleaners

- Arctic Awakening

- Palworld
I'd already seen it before but how can I not mention the game that is essentially Pokémon with guns.
This studio is doing what Ninten-don't!

================================
Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase
================================

- Ravenlok

- Persona 5 Royal (PC port)
Looking foreward to fianlly playing this!

- Kojima
Kojima and his team are making a new game.

- Starfield

================
PC Gaming Show
=================

- Soulstice
Some big Berserk vibes.

- The Invincible
A lot of spooky space games this year.

- The Alters
No, seriously, there's a lot of them. Too many?
This one kinda reminds me the film 'Moon'.

- Decarnation
Bits of this one reminded me of 'Perfect Blue'

- System Shock
Some gameplay shown for the remake of this classic spooky space game.

- Scorn
A more in depth look at the game compared to what was shown during the 'Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase'.
Apparently not a shooter.

- Laysara: Summit Kingdom
A 4X city builder where you build on a steep mountain.
Interesting concept that I'm interested to hear more about.

- Victoria 3
4X game set during the industrial revolution

- Gloomwood
Looks great

- Synergy
Love the art style!

=========================
Guerrilla Collective3.5
=========================

N/A - missed it but I'm sure there was some cool stuff shown.

=================
Capcom Showcase
=================

- Dragon's Dogma 10 Year Stream Announcement
Maybe they'll announce a sequel?

============================
10 Years of Dragon's Dogma
============================

- DRAGON'S DOGMA 2 ANNOUNCED!!!!

======================================
Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase
======================================

- Lorelei and the Laser Eyes

- Persona 5 Might get this on Switch instead of PC. Depends on how well it runs. Either way I'm looking foreward to playing it!

May 2022 - 4th of May be with you (Plus - A brief Doctor Strange and the something something review)

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

I've been busy working on the next big update for the website - Collections!
Yeah, that's right, you'll be able to see some of the random bits of crap some guy on the internet owns! Joking aside, this will easily be the biggest update to the website and I hope that visitors to the site will get some enjoyment or entertainment(?) out of it. There'll be three catogries: 'Tech' (games consoles, cameras, hi-fi, etc) , 'Physical Media' (dvds, blu-rays, video games, etc) and 'Misc.' (any other random bits that I feel are worth mentioning). This section will be updated from time to time with new additions. It's mostly finished and should be live on the site at some point in June.

Went and saw 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' with some friends so here's some quick unorganized thoughts about the film (spoilers incoming - highlight the black box to see them).
Wasn't that excited for this film until it was announced that Sam Raimi would be directing and that it would be the MCU's first horror film. I'm a big fan of the Evil Dead films so this news made me a lot more interested in this film. I was actually pleasantly surprised with how spooky it was and how morbid some of the violence was. The film had some really good camera work and I was glad to see that that film did not resort to jump scares in order to scare the audience.
I was also conncerned that the film would just be two hours of random cameos as there'd been a lot of rumours suggesting a bunch of characters would appear. Thankfully that wasn't the case. Bruce Campbell had a great cameo in this film which kinda reminded me of a scene from Evil Dead II.
But don't worry because if that's all you wanted out of this film then you'll be glad to know that there were quite a few cameos (but not as many as you might have hoped for). The film featured a group called 'The Illuminati'. The group's members included: Professor X (played by Patrick Stewart - a different version of the character he played previously), Captain Carter (Hayley Atwell reprises her role as what is likely a different version of the character), Black Bolt (was really suprised to see Anson Mount play Black Bolt again after his appearance in that Inhumans show nobody watched), Baron Mordo (not too different from the version Chiwetel Ejiofor played in the first Doctor Strange film), Captain Marvel (this version is Maria Rambeau instead of Carol Danvers with Lashana Lynch reprising her role as this version of the character) and Mister Fantastic (who for some reason was played by John Krasinski). Charlize Theron also makes an appearance as [redacted] in one of the post credit scenes. Yeah I know this is secret spoiler talk but If you don't know who she'll be playing then you're better off not knowing until Doctor Strange 3 comes out. Trust me.
Anyway I really enjoyed this film and would say it's easily one of my favourite MCU films. If you go in with the right expectations you'll proabbly enjoy it too! Nuff said.

Apr. 2022 - New PC who dis?

Hello! I hope you've had a good month (and a good Easter).

Well my room is now a complete tip thanks to the fact I got a litle bit carried away tidying in preperation for my new PC, but it's fiiiine. In a way it's good though, as there's a lot stuff that I should've gotten rid of a long time ago. For now though it's going to remain a tip so I can get back to work on this site and the comic I mentioned last month.

So yeah my new PC arrived. I won't bore you with the details but it's a big upgrade from what I had before. I also bought a new mouse and keyboard (MX Master 3 and Keychron K8) because I need less wires in my life.

One of the more interesting this I did this month was visiting a Van Gogh exhibition called 'Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience'. Really enjoyed it despite skipping the VR section of the exhibit (was quite pricey just to get in). The highlight was the 360° digital show that showcased his life and work. Here's some pics I took:

P.S My review of the game 'Sable' is nearly ready (finally). It will be up on the site on Friday (29th).

Mar. 2022 - Spring has Sprung!

Hello! I hope you've had a good month.

This month has been a little frustrating for me. As you'll know from my last blog post, I intended to resume work on the comic 'Cracks of a Chilling Colour' but I haven't really found the time. I hope to resume work on it soon once a few things have been taken care of. This is also partly why I've yet to write and add a review for the video game 'Sable'. That should be ready and up on the site sometime next month. Speaking of updates for the site, I'm working on a 'Collections' section. It's something I've noticed on quite a few of the other neocities sites and seeing as I'm something of a collector myself I decided to add one! The section will include photos and info about some of the more interesting DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs and Vinyl records I own as well as some other bits and bobs including various bits of old tech.

Despite the minor annoyances mentioned previously, March has been pretty good and it's nice to finally by out of winter and into spring. I've been playing more of my keyboard this month. As well as practicing the songs mentioned last month I've also been learning to play 'Don't Stop Believin' and 'Pure Imagination'. I'm still really enjoying my time playing it. I've been thinking of maybe having some videos of me playing it on the site, though I think I'll need to get a bit better first!

In other news, I'm in the process of doing a bit of a tidy up (probably an understatement) in preparation for the delivery of my new PC! It's a prebuilt PC (1. because new graphics cards are still extortionately expensive and 2. because I'm a coward fuck you :) ) that I ordered almost a month ago from a company called Scan. It's currently in the final stages of being built and tested (had to wait till this week as there are so many people being prebuilt PCs) and should hopefully arrive by the end of this week!

Jan. + Feb. 2022 - Happy New Year!

Welcome to my first blog entry!

The main purpose of these blog entries will be to give updates on what I'm working on and announce upcoming projects. They will also be a bit like a diary so you can expect some random personal stuff too! You can expect a new entry on the last Wednesday of each month at around midday (GMT/BST). As well as that, I'll also be occasionlly writing essays on various topics. I'm hoping to write and release at least one each month. They'll be posted here in the blog section of the website.

So now that that's out of the way, what have I been up to? Well the main thing has (unsuprisingly) been putting the finishing touches to this website. It's by no means finished and I plan to make many adjustments and improvements over time as my HTML/CSS writing skills improve. But now that it's 'finished' I can continue work on the comic I am currently working on. It's a horror/mystery called 'Cracks of a Chilling Colour' and will be my first comic! I've only written it so far so the next step will be creating the 'thumbnails'. They're a bit like storyboards excepct they tend to be smaller and a lot sketchier. Doing this allows me to work out the layouts of each page.

In my spare time I've started playing the keyboard! I'd been thinking about it for a while and (in retrospect) kinda wish I'd started during lockdown. It was a bit of an impulse buy (which is quite unusual for me - I tend to spend an excessive amount of time doing lots of research before buying) but after a little bit of research I decided on the 'Casiotone CT-S1BK'. With the help of various videos on Youtube I've been able to learn how to play the piano intro to the song 'Easy' by Commodores and the piano intro to the song 'Home Sweet Home' by Mötley Crüe. I've really enjoyed playing it so far!
